Chosen as

and ....... In the process of being submitted to the

as longest World Wide Walk, by a senior (54 year old) man to perform such a feat for a charity, without a support operation!
LATEST NEWS: At 1000 GMT on 1 April 2006, Stephen departed his ancestral home near Dublin, Ireland, en route to his world wide walk.  Stephen was seen off by family, children from the local school system and many local well wishers.  News Media assembled for the occasion in order to publicize this great undertaking.  As of 9 October 2006, Stephen has walked about 3,270 kilometers since his start.  On the very same day, Stephen entered Rome where he hopes for an audience with the Pope.
ABOUT STEPHEN MALONE:

Stephen "Walker" Malone was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1951.  He is the son of a legendary Irish walker, J.B. Malone, who pioneered waymarked walking trails around the country.  Having studied in Ireland, Spain and Italy, Stephen was ordained a priest in 1982 and worked as a missionary within the jungles of Yucatan, Mexico.  Having returned to secular life in 1988, Stephen worked as a journalist in Rome and then as an English teacher in Japan.  Since 1992, he has lived in Thailand, where he taught Western Literature at Kamphaeng Phet, Rajabhat University, located in central Thailand and at Mae Sot on the Thai-Burmese (Myanmar) border.  He is married to Pensri, who originates form Surin, Thailand.  Together they have two young daughters; Tanthawan and Stella.  Steve has continued his extensive mountain climbing in Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Indonesia and New Zealand.  He has walked the "Camino de Santiago", the famous medieval pilgrim route across France and Spain, for a total of seven times.  Now he is ready to face the challenge of walking around the world for a cause that needs the worlds attention.

The plan calls to walk the circumference of the globe, in two month stages.  He departed Ireland at 10 A.M., on 1 April 2006 from "San Martin" Millicent Road, Clane, County Kildare in Ireland and subsequently trek through Europe, Asia, Australia and America, completing the journey in the year 2011. The idea is to raise funds for selected AIDS charities, including that of Father Joe Maier’s Mercy Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
WHY IS STEPHEN DOING THIS:

We suggest that you take a look at http://www.mercycentre.org/index.html  That should explain a lot and make Stephen intentions clear.  Father Joe Maier, at that location can be contacted and he will surely attest to Stephen's sincerity and willingness to make this project successful
